All students (Taiwanese, Koreans and Japanese), teachers (Filipino
and native), and our managers participated on the Educational field trip on
April 25, 2018. We visited Intramuros, the historic walled area within the city
of Manila. Intramuros is also called the Walled City, as the Spanish term literally translates ‘within the
walls”. It was the seat of government and political power back in the days when the
Philippines was still under the Spanish rule. During
this trip, students were guided by our teachers around these places of interest
in English. We are pleased to offer this report of our trip together. Please
take a look and see what we did!
The Intramuros and Rizal’s Bagumbayan Light and Sound Museum
is one of the main attractions in Intramuros showcasing the history of the
Philippines and the Filipino’s journey to freedom.
It is a one of a kind museum with those lights, sound
effects and incredible timing of every mechanics running the exhibits inside.
It was an hour walk thru of our history in a dark room with sculptures,
paintings, representations, and models that surprises us every time a spot
light was drawn to them.
The students were able to understand the culture and history
of the Philippines during pre- Hispanic period and Spanish colonial period to
the declaration of the Independence Day of the Philippines.
After an hour of tour inside the museum we had lunch at
Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant located at Plaza San Luis. It is a themed restaurant known for its
quaint old world ambiance reminiscent of the Spanish era.
Right after Lunch we headed to Casa Manila next to the
restaurant.
A museum made to look like a typical
upper class house during the turn of the 19th century.
Personally
I was amazed how it was constructed and the students were amazed with the
furniture and kitchen stuff during those times.
The
last place we visited was the fort Santiago, it took us 5 minutes by food from
Casa manila to get there. Fort Santiago is a citadel built by Spanish
conquistador, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi. The
defense fortress is part of the structures of the walled city of Manila
referred to as Intramuros.
Now it is one of the famous tourist spot in
Manila. Visiting this place was full of excitement and enthusiasm. As you
entered the gate, it felt like you were entering a place from a different era.
And we finished the tour just in time
before the sunset. We then dashed off and headed back to Pampanga.
BYE! TILL THEN...
